Will Allow Wireless Streaming Without Wi-Fi
The Telegraph claims that Apple is planning to introduce the next generation AirPlay video and audio streaming technology in September.
Apple's AirPlay wireless protocol allows users to stream media content using Wi-Fi technology to AirPlay compatible devices like Apple TV from an iOS device or computer.According to Telegraph, the new AirPlay Technology dubbed 'AirPlay Direct' will allow streaming devices like the iPhone or iPad to directly stream content to a set of speakers or other devices without a Wi-Fi network. Sources familiar with the iPhone-maker’s plans said that Apple wants to improve the AirPlay wireless music streaming technology, which currently requires Airplay speakers and a WiFi network. The new version will require just speakers or a hifi and an iDevice; the iPhone, iPod or iPad would form its own network to allow a direct connection and music playback
.
It has been rumors that Apple is planning to add Bluetooth 4.0 support to its AirPlay wireless protocol. The low power consumption of Bluetooth 4.0 makes it an excellent alternative to Wi-Fi especially for iOS devices.
Telegraph expects AirPlay Direct to be announced at the September 12 media event where Apple is widely expected to unveil the next generation iPhone.
