Email from Picnik with an announcement that they are closing on April 19, 2012.
After seven years of free and premium online photo editing, Picnik announces that it will close on April 19, 2012.

Picnik is closing. I just got the email today because I have a free Picnik account. For those of you who don't know, Picnik is a web-based photo editing tool, which Google acquired back in 2010. I have been using it for over 4 years. For those of you who do know, you would probably also be aware that it's one of the most feature-rich online photo editing tool there is. And like me, you'd probably tried to check if there is a Picnik iPhone app. Well, there wasn't, and I don't think there ever will be one now.

Google will be closing Picnik effective April 19, 2012. By then some of Picnik's photo editing tools will be transferred to Google+. Apparently, Picnik is not the only tool that will be moved, changed, or phased out. Dave Girouard, VP of Product Management,  posted in the Official Google Blog that these changes are necessary to create "a beautifully simple, intuitive user experience across Google—an experience that will change the lives of millions of people."

I will miss Picnik. But then again, it's just another day in the digital world. And I'm looking forward to the future changes in Google+.
