The iPhone has a feature that allows you view some battery usage statistics on how long it will last. You can also turn on or off the battery percent indicator from this location (note: require iPhone 3GS and higher).
To view this information, under Settings > General > Usage. To turn on the battery percent indicator, slide its switch on or off depending on your preference.
