By default the caps lock feature is disabled on the iPhone. So its required to hold down the shift key every time you want to type letters in uppercase. To enable the caps lock feature, under Settings > General > Keyboard, turn on the Enable Caps Lock. Now all that needs to be done, is press the shift key twice to enable this feature, and again to disable it.
